This is exciting: I’m hosting the first-ever live recording of On Humans. It will be held this Wednesday at the London Business School.

My guest is a familiar name to long-term listeners: Yasheng Huang, an MIT Professor and a world-leading China expert. He is visiting London, and we wanted to continue our chats about China’s past, present, and future. We will discuss his upcoming book on the “Needham Question” and China’s future under Xi Jinping. Expect a feast of insights into questions such as:

• Why did China lead the world technologically for so long? Why did China fall behind?

• What explains China’s rise during the past decades? Was China just “borrowing from the West” or innovating on its own?
